About Patti Summers

As a systems-focused therapist, I am committed to helping couples, families, and individuals who have encountered relational losses—whether through ongoing conflict, growing apart from one another, enduring a betrayal, or suffering the death of a significant loved one. I take a collaborative approach with my clients to unpack these experiences by exploring their attachment styles, thoughts, feelings, and actions to help each reach their desired goals. In addition to my passion for relational health, I also present workshops, conduct webinars, enjoy engagements for speaking individually or as a panelist, and look forward to writing on topics for which I am passionate.

My Experiences and Qualifications

Following a career in quality management and education in healthcare settings, I experienced a life-altering event which caused me to re-evaluate everything. As I worked through the grief and significant changes that followed, I decided to pursue a lifelong passion which others told me was a natural skill. I return to school and achieved a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy.  I am currently a prelicensure candidate in marriage and family therapy in Colorado, completing supervision and other regulatory requirements that lead to licensure. As required during my clinical placements, I was previously registered as an unlicensed psychotherapist in this state.

I am a life-long learner so I am continuing my professional development by working toward certification in several complementary treatment options. These include evidence-based modalities such as Emotionally-Focused Therapy and Gottman Method. The latter includes Gottman Connect, a comprehensive assessment in which I am trained, as well as alternative options for couples who cannot commit to weekly therapy due to work hours/scheduling issues or financial constraints. Finally, to address anxiety, trauma, and other challenges clients wish to process, I use Brainspotting, a 21st-century, emerging therapeutic technique which evolved out of well-researched eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. There is no additional cost for adding brainspotting to your treatment.
